Lone Star Park: Autrey has plenty of contenders on Friday's card

A couple of months, when I approached the bottom of my "to read" pile, Sean mentioned on the 'cast that he really liked the Honor Harrington series by David Weber. As I am not a "bigoted book," I decided to give the first, Basil, an essay. After waiting seven to ten days for Amazon to ship it to me I finally got in my hands and ready to crack the cover.

In short: I loved it! The honor is strong, conscience, and treats his enemies with respect.

Why do I love Honor Harrington series of brilliant strategist women and namesake?She is both mentally and physically strong. She knows martial arts, shooting, and swords. It can control a ship with full support and dedication of his team because it has the total respect and respects each and every one of them. And most importantly, she has a conscience. Losing crew injured horribly, but having to remove his injured crew enemies almost as deeply. For this reason, it does not kill to kill. Enemies that survive battles with honor vessels are supported and treated with courtesy and respect.

Her companion Nimitz - a loving God, capable, and dangerous (enemies) treecat complete with four legs, two arms, and attitude-awesomely entertaining - was a surprise, though. Author David Weber deals Nimitz as a full-fledged character in the books. Nimitz has its own feelings, his own relations, and his own opinions. It has its own quirks and addictions. Although my first thoughts and mental images of him were those of a large house cat, it quickly became much more for me. Her capacity for empathy and its relationship to the honor and emotions are one of my favorite passages in the series.

I'll admit I do not understand everything in the books. I took algebra twice at university before I do, and the series contains a lot of math and science to explain gravity, T wave, and rates of acceleration and deceleration. Initially, the anal part of me began to read and reread these parts in an effort to understand. But eventually I realized that if they are part of the book, I did not understand all these concepts in order to enjoy the rest of the story. Instead of letting them stop reading, I come to accept these concepts on faith and enjoy the Honorverse.

Having plowed through the first four books, I own the last of paperback books available in the series and am working on these. The hardest part about reading this series is the struggle against the spouse of a book we both read the title right now. David Weber has written four books to date in an expanded universe Honor Harrington Sean assures me that are worth the read. I've been on my wish list!
